I am not sure if this is a bug or not.
When entering battle with a Pirate fleet, at the moment battle begins it appears that the Pirate fleet is in flight and returning from Expedition (coordinates 10). The "Enemy Fleet" alarm flashes red and a flight path is shown - https://clip2net.com/s/3VN6XDo
Yet when you view a Pirate fleet they are shown in Defense of a particular coordinate, and not in flight or Expedition - https://clip2net.com/s/3VNsAzS
 
This was confusing at first as I thought an enemy had arrived at a Pirate Fleet at the same moment I had. But when it happened a few times and I viewed the "Enemy Fleets", I realised it was actually the Pirate fleet I was attacking.

Is this a bug? If not, how are the Pirates in defense of coordinates AND returning from Expedition at the same time?
Either way, can it be reverted back to the way it was before? Thank you.
 

That is the result of Battle system fleet timing, spam and fleet timing bug resolving.... 

JD501 ,  ITS because you have a officer Telepatist.
This also shows you pirats if you run to same cords.
And it also shows pirate coming out of 10 if you attack on cords.
 
Thats normal.
 
If you do not like - do not hire telepatist again after it run out of time.


 
 

Stein, I have never hired the Telepathist officer. Although I have noticed the Telepathist station was positioned at my capital, but I do not know why... 
 I see now it is no longer there. I cannot say if it was there when I reported the issue I described above. But I have never noticed it before and I regularly attack pirates. 

Is it possible I had the Telepathist officer without buying it? Another bug?

Yes, it is possible as a reward of 12 mission.
